Yala National Park, Sri Lanka. 27 January 2025

We arrived at our hotel in Tissamaharama from where we would go on safari in nearby Yala National Park.   However,  when we arrived and presented our booking confirmation from Agoda,  we were told they hadn't received the booking and didn't have any rooms available because they were expecting a large group.  We suspected they blew us off rather than lose a group booking.   So we had to look for another hotel which wasn't easy as it's high season here, but eventually found one which turned out to be better than the original one and located directly on the beach within spitting distance of the Park entrance.   Our room was lovely and overlooked the beach so we went to sleep to the sound of crashing waves.

The staff were amazing and the restaurant manager tailored our 4 course evening meal to what we wanted.  On the last evening she produced 3 authentic Sri Lankan curries, alongside a mountain of rice.  It was delicious.

We went on a full day safari on Sunday from 6 am to 6 pm with breakfast and lunch provided (despite our restaurant lady sending us off with huge packed breakfasts).  Yesterday was a half day safari.   Both were excellent with the usual range of wildlife,  including seeing a leopard each day in a tree, so difficult to photograph.

Amazing photos from the safari! It would appear that you had a stroke of luck following the ‘overbooked’ hotel. The substitute looks wonderful. Sleeping to the sound of crashing waves sounds heavenly.. and what a view to wake too :) xx

What a nightmare after your long journey! So pleased it turned out better in the end though and it sounds like you are being well catered for.
The safari photos are beautiful. What an experience. Love and hugs to both of you. xxxx

Looks a great trip so far, and it just wouldn’t be you without mishaps along the way!
You were really lucky on the safari, and seem to be doing very well with the food too!
xx
