Incheon (Seoul), South Korea 16th March 2025

After leaving Taiwan we had 2 sea days before arriving into Incheon (Seoul). The temperature dropped significantly; about 15 degrees the first day and down to single figures yesterday.

We had a full day excursion the first day, visiting the Ganghwa Peace Observatory from where we could see across the water to North Korea. Our Korean guide said that while many people, in principle, wish for reunification, the cost of aligning the economies of north and south would be too expensive. She gave the example of Germany where the ratio of the economies were 3:1, the ratio in Korea is 20:1.

After lunch in a Korean restaurant, we visited the first Anglican church in South Korea which was designed to look like a traditional Korean house.

We had coffee at a coffee shop which was an old textile factory which then became a junkyard before becoming the coffee shop. Much of the bric-a-brac was used for decoration giving it a cool Bohemian feel.  The statue  was outside the coffee shop.

On our second day we had a half day excursion; we took a water taxi down the canal in Central Park before visiting the Tribowl - an arts and music venue. Our final stop was at the writing museum which took us through the history of the development of the written language throughout the world, from prehistoric cave art to digital media. It was a very cold morning, about 5 degrees, with a stiff breeze making it feel much colder. Fortunately we were prepared as we knew we will be experiencing cold weather later in this trip.

We enjoyed our time in Incheon and now headed towards Busan, also in South Korea.

This is a typical street scene in Incheon.   Sue commented that everything is grey but, of course, its the end of winter here and it would look very different when the trees start coming into leaf.

Paul is still struggling to say no thank you to the alcohol and our concierge, when he found out we were going to have a relaxing afternoon in our suite, brought along a bottle of white wine, a bottle of Prosecco and a carafe of some red fruity stuff that he said would be a good accompaniment to the unfinished champagne in our now overflowing fridge. Oh dear.

Just in catch-up mode. I’ve been to Austria for Henri’s 4th birthday.
The change of temperature must have been a shock to the system! Glad it was expected and you had warm clothing. Love the photos and it all sounds so interesting.
I hope Paul doesn’t get too accustomed to all that alcohol! 😂
Love and hugs to both of you. xx

Oh my this is a very alcohol heavy trip for some people isn’t it? Good job Paul doesnt get hangovers! I like that they kept the bric a brac for decoration. I bet it was good to see. Our weather is finally warming up and we have seen quite a lot of sun. Lots of love you two x x x
