Shimizu, Japan 25th March 2025

Shimizu was our last cruise ship destination and we had a warm sunny day. Our excursion wasn't the best because we kept losing our elderly tour guide, plus we had some guests who weren't the fastest when it came to walking.

We drove to the Nihondaira Ropeway (cable car) to the Kunozan Toshogu Shrine, the burial site for the first Shogun, which covered a large area surrounded by forest (and cherry blossom trees in bloom!). There were a lot of steep steps between the buildings which were very beautiful and some of the decoration reminded us of the Tibetan Buddhist temples we'd seen in Ladakh, India.

After a couple of hours here we returned to the coach by cable car and drove to a beach where Mt Fuji can be seen on a clear day but unfortunately it was too hazy to make out barely a vague outline. We will get another chance later in the trip, so fingers crossed.

From the beach we walked along a boardwalk to the Miho Temple which wasn't as impressive as earlier and then it was time to head back to the ship for lunch.
