Jaipur, India 19th January 2023

After a six hour train journey from Jodhpur, we arrived into Jaipur, the pink city (more pink than Jodhpur was blue).  As we knew we would be too late for dinner in Jaipur, we opted to buy food on the train from the myriad of vendors who ply their products through the carriages.  We had stuffed puris and samosas (costing less than 50 pence for both of us) and cups of coffee.

We've used the Jaipur Metro to get us into the city centre to visit the City Palace (the cream and pink coloured building in the photos) which left us underwhelmed after the grandeur of the palace in Udaipur; and a photo stop at the water palace in the middle of the lake, plus a stop at a memorial which we didn't catch the name of.  We finally ended up at the Palace of the Winds (the impressive dark pink building) which we viewed from a rooftop cafe whilst munching veggie burgers and chips.

Yesterday we went on a safari in the Jhalana Leopard Park where we saw the inevitable spotted deer and mongoose, with a glimpse of a leopard in the long grass.

Today we got a taxi out to the Amber Palace and Amber Fort around 8 miles from Jaipur which took an hour due to the traffic.  The palace was nice, and definitely amber, but the highlight was the magnificent Fort which we climbed up to.  One of the photos taken from the top shows the height we gained - you can see the car park at the bottom where the taxi driver dropped us off.  Sue said she'll have thighs like Geoff Capes with all the climbing (younger readers will have to Google him!).

I agree the City Palace looks very bland compared to previous ones you have seen.
The water palace in the lake and Palace of the Winds look more interesting.
Oh my goodness the Amber Fort is so high up and what an epic climb. The views are wonderful. You must both be so fit. All our love xx
