We arrived into Sydney at lunchtime on 16th April and, much to our surprise, our luggage arrived with us. When we left Cairns, the luggage conveyor had broken down and when we landed we were warned that an amount of luggage hadn't arrived.
We have been staying at The York, an aparthotel in the city centre. The last few days have been spent discovering Sydney on foot, taking in the major sights of the Opera House, Harbour Bridge, the botanical gardens, Darling Harbour and the Barangaroo Reserve.
We have also done some essential shopping as many of our clothes were looking a little threadbare after wearing them continuously for six months.
Because Australia is sport-obsessed, and it's an outdoor life, we had expected Aussies to be svelt, lean and athletic. However the presence of an abundance of bars, pubs and pie shops has taken its toll. Not that us Brits can talk.
Tomorrow we are boarding a cruise ship to take us to Vancouver, taking a month to complete the voyage. We both have mixed feelings; it will be good to unpack our bags and relax but we are unsure of the cruise experience as it's not something we'd ever envisaged doing. Who knows, we may love it! As Wi-Fi could be unpredictable, it may be a while before we can do another update.
