Cruise/Tahiti/Moorea/Raiatea 2nd May 2023

After our Groundhog Day and another couple of days at sea, we arrived into Tahiti on Sunday 30th April.  We had a snorkel excursion booked but the government banned all water based activities both Saturday and Sunday due to a "big swell" which was a pity as it was Paul's birthday (thank you for all the good wishes).  Fortunately the swell wasn't too noticeable on the ship and we went ashore and had a walk around but most things were closed as it was Sunday.

Overnight we sailed into the nearby island of Moorea and as we were having breakfast on the ship, there were literally dozens of dolphins in the water nearby which was lovely to see.  We had to tender in Moorea as it only has a small pier and we were accompanied on the boat by several dolphins (which is where the photo was taken from).  We had a "snorkel safari " booked and fortunately this did go ahead and we snorkelled alongside sharks and rays at very close quarters.  Then we went to another inlet for snorkelling on the reef with an array of fish and coral.

Once again we sailed overnight to our final French Polynesian island of Raiatea, arriving at 7 am.  Again a small island so we had to tender across to shore.  We had a walk around in the heat and humidity soaking up the sheer greenness of the island.  As you'll see from the photos, all the islands are very green and lush.

We now have several sea days ahead of us before we get to Hawaii so it will be back to the gym tomorrow morning in an effort to counteract the food and alcohol consumption!

Such a shame you weren’t able to snorkel on Paul’s birthday but pleased the snorkel safari went ahead. Everything else sounds absolutely wonderful!
Looking forward to your next update. Happy sailing. All our love and hugs. xxxx
