We disembarked the Volendam in Skagway early morning and had a few hours before we were due to board the train to our next destination. You could walk round the whole town in less than an hour so we went to the visitor information centre to ask about walking trails in the area. We had the choice of two: an easy one and a challenging one, so you can probably guess what we opted for! It was a good climb up to Dewey Lake but well worth the effort. We had sufficient time to do the easy walk but the wind was icy cold and we gave it a miss and had a coffee instead.
At 12.45 pm we boarded the White Summit and Yukon Railroad for an incredible 90 minute journey up to the pass and ending up in Fraser. The scenery turned from green to white as we climbed up to the pass and going outside on the back of the carriage for photos was absolutely freezing but beautiful.
We travelled from Fraser to Whitehorse (having gone through passport control on the train when officers came on board) by coach with stops at Carcross (where the photo of us was taken) and Emerald Lake.
It was a long day as we didn't get into Whitehorse until the evening but such amazing scenery along the way.
