Denali National Park, Alaska 31st May 2023

After our day in Fairbanks, we took the coach to Denali National Park, further into the interior of Alaska, where we spent the next two nights.  Unfortunately the weather was (supposedly) unseasonably cold and wet and we couldn't see the peak of Mount Denali but the views and the landscape were still beautiful.

On our second day we took the Tundra Wilderness Tour for six hours aboard a bus as this is the only option for getting deeper into the Park - there's a point where private vehicles can't go any further. We had four seasons within the six hours, from sun to rain and snow.  It's cold here in Alaska!

Apart from the incredible views, we were lucky enough to see plenty of wildlife including caribou, moose, the retreating view of a porcupine and a grizzly bear who was digging holes by the side of the road in search of ground squirrels and roots.  It was good to see moose because we visited Canada a few years back and never caught a glimpse of one, despite hiking round Moose Lake where they were supposed to be in abundance.

The building in the photos is McKinley Chalet where we stayed and that too had great views.
