Arriving into Delhi a few days ago we were shocked to experience 13 degree temperatures after the 30 degree temperature of the Maldives. Fortunately we have our cold weather clothes with us. The following day we flew even further north to Rishikesh in the foothills of the Himalayas, with similarly cool climate. When the sun is out during the day, it's like a spring day in the UK but the temperature dips when the sun goes down.
We are staying in a hotel with a room overlooking the Ganges where there is always something going on, whether it be whitewater rafting, otters hunting for food, people doing yoga, or swamis performing sunset ritual of Aarti which we participated in last night.
Today we explored the ghats on both sides of the river, crossing by means of a narrow suspension bridge packed with people, cattle, monkeys and motorcycles. The banks are lined with many temples, food stalls, cafes and shops selling all manner of ritual paraphernalia.
Tomorrow evening we are getting an overnight train down to Rajasthan, our first port of call being Ranthambore National Park so we'll catch up with you again there but in the meantime we would like to wish everyone a very happy new year.
