Cruise/Maui, Hawaii. 8th May 2023

After leaving the French Polynesian islands, we sailed for four days before arriving into Maui, Hawaii.  As this was our entry point into the United States we had to go through immigration.  US officials came onboard to process the 2500 guests plus 1500 crew.  We'd expected long delays and queues but it went like a dream and we were through and onshore ahead of our allotted time slot.

We booked a tour to visit Haleakala crater at 10,000 feet above sea level and boarded our small bus, along with 18 other guests and were driven and guided by a Hawaiian lady called Nettie.  She made a couple of stops en route ostensibly for photos and toilet breaks but we're sure that acclimatisation was the main concern.  It was decidedly chilly at the top but were prepared with jackets.  As you can see from the pictures it was absolutely stunning.  Rather than one crater, it was a caldera with several volcanic cones inside.

Tomorrow we will be in Honolulu, Oahu Island and that will be the end of the journey for many guests.  However we are staying on the ship and continuing to Vancouver and as part of that next cruise we will be back in Maui as our next port of call so we'll hopefully have more photos to show you then.

Volcanoes are pretty spectacular, aren’t they? Bit smelly, but interesting. Hope your shoes didn’t melt! Carry on cruising! Xxx
